Saturday, June 5, the Cassville Habitat for Humanity held their first annual Refurbish Fair.
From 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., the Habitat's parking lot was open for crafts to recreate old furniture into works of art.
“This is a great way to fulfill our mission,” said Habitat for Humanity Board member, Monique Hannam. “To bring the community together and bring funding to build Barry County houses, and to create things that are meaningful, and help the environment.”
Hannam moved to Barry County from Carmel, Indiana, where classes could be taken in her neighborhood on upcycling, and where multiple stores sold upcycled furniture.
At Habitat, Hannam seeks to use Habitat’s steady flow of trinkets and furniture “that maybe someone wasn’t in love with anymore,” to inspire people to “upcycle things into their vision of what they could be.”
“This will become a yearly event, and we hope to make it bigger and better next year,” said Hannam.
