On Friday, March 8, the Barry County OACAC Center will host a fundraiser featuring the Homestead Pickers to raise money for the Neighborhood Center’s emergency fund.
This a fund that the OACAC center keeps on hand to ensure that families experiencing crises can purchase necessary items that aren’t commonly paid for through their other services.
“If some of our clients are in a crisis, we use that emergency fund money to get them out of it,” said Gail Reed, supervisor of the OACAC Barry County Neighborhood Center. “Prescriptions, gas money to get to and from doctor’s appointments, driver’s licenses, scrubs; just different things like that.”
Reed expressed that the emergency fund is crucial to their work with families in need. While the current fund helps many each year with essentials, Reed is looking to expand the fund’s capacity to aid more in need of assistance with basic living expenses.
“If we have more money in the emergency fund, we’ll be able to help more people,” said Reed.
The festivities will be held at the community building on the Crowder College Cassville campus. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and performances will begin at 7 p.m.
“This is our first time doing something like this, we’re very excited,” said Reed.
The fundraiser will feature a performance from the Homestead Pickers, a bluegrass and gospel comedy band from Branson that has a standing performance schedule at Silver Dollar City. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.
“They’re pretty big in the area,” said Reed. “We’re excited to have them.”
Attendees will also be treated to a host of concessions at the event. In addition funnel cakes, walking tacos, popcorn and cookies, there will be an appearance by Thrasher’s Nutty Bavarian, a Silver Dollar City shop famous for their seasoned nuts.
The event will feature a silent auction. Throughout the event, several tables will be set up featuring items donated by community members and local businesses that can be bid on throughout the evening. The auction will close at the end of the Homestead Pickers’ performance, after which the winners will be announced and the items distributed.
Items for the auction so far include: a gift card for games and free shoe rental, donated by Cassville Bowl; a free oil change, donated by Les Jacobs Ford; a set of reference books, donated by the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library Cassville branch; and an auto-detailing gift bucket, donated by Auto Zone of Monett.
Tickets for the event will be $10 per person. They are currently available at the OACAC Neighborhood Center, located in Cassville at 907 Main Street. Tickets will be available at the door of the event as well and can be paid for with cash, credit or debit.
The event is being sponsored by the Cassville MFA, Roark Family Health, Flat Creek Realty, Four State Vapors of Monett and United Healthcare.
At the fundraiser, OACAC will also begin selling tickets for a raffle for a Mossberg rifle, donated by the Cassville MFA. The raffle will begin the night of the fundraiser and end on May 9. Entry in to the raffle costs $5 per ticket or $20 for an “arm-span” of tickets.
