It takes a village...

I attended the Cassville Area Coalition of Charities meeting last Wednesday at the Life Change building, located on Hwy 248, in Cassville. I vowed that this new year I would become more involved with one: helping others in their lives and two: help find a way to change the trajectory of crime, homelessness, and the drug and mental health problems that seem to be on the upswing these days throughout our communities. I wanted to be a voice and I felt this was a good place to start to better understand what resources are available for those that may be struggling or lost.
Though there were several agencies at the meeting who provide resources for those in need, I noticed there was a lack of individuals in leadership roles in our communities that should be there so they may know what resources are available and to collaborate and establish what resources we still need... I mean, doesn’t it take a village?
This artic blast this past week and the use of social media has opened my eyes to how caring and empathetic we are in Barry County. Several came together and networked to spread the word online to distribute coats, blankets, and provide warming center locations during the frigid temperatures. I hope that we continue to collaborate to build a solid network.
The Cassville Area Coalition of Charities will meet again on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Life Change building and I want to personally invite representatives from local hospitals, public services, first responders, churches, foundations, elected officials, city councils and school boards to attend the meeting. I think it will be beneficial to our communities to know what resources are available and collaborate on what we need to build a stronger community base. If you are in need, I invite you to attend the meeting as well. Lunch will be provided. I hope to see you all there!
