The eagerly anticipated Kid's Fishing Day at Roaring River State Park is back on the calendar in 2021, with the Spring Kids' Fishing Day scheduled for this Saturday, May 15, 6:30 a.m. - 8:15 p.m. A second Kids' Fishing Day will be held in the fall.
According to hatchery manager, Paul Sturgeon, the river will be kept well-stocked with fish all day Saturday so kids ages 15 and under can (hopefully) catch their limit. A special section of the river will be designated "Kids (and helpers) only," where only one fishing pole per kid and helper can be used.
According to the Missouri State Parks website, a free hot dog lunch will be available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and various programs and tours will be available throughout the day. All programs are subject to change, depending on the weather and sufficient staffing.
"This event will be similar to those in years past, except that we won't have an activities tent this year," Sturgeon said.
Park Superintendent Joel Topham said the Show-Mobile trailer will park nearby, where bluegrass bands will perform from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
At dusk (about 8:30 p.m.), the movie "Call of The Wild" will be shown on an outdoor screen near the park store.
"It's the new 'Call of The Wild,'" Topham said, "the one with Harrison Ford."
