The Wheaton Lady Bulldogs opened district play on Monday night, defeating Jasper, 35-21.
Before the game, Wheaton coach Jessica Lombard implored her girls to trust their teammates. It wasn’t exactly a “win one for the Gipper” speech, but it set the tone for the game.
“We push each other to get better. We could never be as good as we are alone as we are together,” she told them.
In a low scoring game, six different Lady Bulldogs contributed to the point total, with Allison Whitman leading the way with 10.
Wheaton advanced to a Wednesday night semifinal against top-seed College Heights Christian in Class 2 District 12.
In Class 3 District 12 action, Pierce City dropped Purdy, 48-36, and Diamond drummed Southwest, 62-16. Purdy ended the season with an 8-13 mark, while Southwest finished at 5-15.
The Exeter girls, with only one regular season win, lost a close game to Hurley, 47-42 in Class 1 District 4 action on Saturday. The Lady Tigers finished the season at 1-17.
