Lady Trojans epic win highlights tournament week

December 11, 2019
Lee Stubblefield

A week of tournaments dominated the high school basketball scene. No area school won a tournament title, but there was one notable achievement. The Southwest Lady Trojans are winless no more.

Southwest ended a 48-game losing streak with a 34-32 squeaker over the Diamond Lady Wildcats at the Diamond Tournament on Tuesday, December 3.

Destiny Jalbert’s squad held a 7-point lead in the final minutes, but Diamond stormed back to tie the game at 32. Southwest’s Brylee Wilson missed a jumper as the clock ran down but was fouled with seven tenths of a second remaining. One free throw would secure the first victory for the Lady Trojans since December 2, 2017, when they beat the host Lady Wildcats at that year’s Diamond Invitational.

Wilson toed the line and shot. Miss. Miss again.

But little sister Emily Wilson leaped into the lane and tapped the ball over the rim as the horn sounded.
