To the Citizens of Barry County,
Subject: Local Prosecuting Attorney Amy Boxx, allowing non-violent criminal thieves, even those with felony charges to walk free back into our communities to steal again with no repercussions….
There are many citizens of this county who are finding out about our legal system after their properties and personal belongings have been stolen or destroyed. When thousands of dollars of your stuff gets stolen, that’s when you learn that the criminals are walking away free to steal again….and the victims of these increasing number of crimes have little course of action.
First let me say, my experience last week, put me in-touch with two (of the eight police officers for the entire Barry County). They were so helpful and kind. They do a great job for the few officers we have. We need more good police officers and a prosecutor who will prosecute non-violent crimes. Our communities are full of addicted, selfish, pathetic thieves who have no conscious and who would steal from their own mothers. They need help for sure but that’s not what’s happening in our county. As this darkness continues, it’s only going to get worse. I realize the prosecutor must have basic evidence to charge the violators….but even when the police have the suspect in hand with the evidence…the prosecutor is letting them go…when it’s totally in the public interest to charge the suspect.
I’m an old lady in a wheelchair. I hired a couple to work on my yard…..I thought they were doing me a good job…not charging an outrageous sum to do it. When they were kicked out of where they lived…I even allowed them to take showers and do their washing in my home……All the time they were stealing me blind….they broke into my shed…stealing thousands of dollars, tools, new tents, boating equipment, chainsaws, new weed wacker, a kayak…so much more….destroyed my car, stealing the brand new battery and my license plates. One was arrested with my car plates still on his car. The officers told me he was to be charged with:
1. Tampering (with car)
2. Theft of over $750.00, (which is a felony)
3. Elderly abuse…. They held him for 24 hours and let him walk. The woman, already a felon, had been charged and arrested with a $30,000 bond….but also walked without paying the bond. This is happening daily….as a community we need to not let our county sink to the level of the northern coast…where crime rules over law and justice. As long as this is allowed to continue…not you or your stuff are safe from harm….their eyes are always scoping out everything they see.
