Liberty Utilities warns of imminent power outages
February 16, 2021
Sheila Harris
Liberty Utilities, provider of electricity to residents of northern Barry County, received word this morning that their supplier, Southwest Power Pool, has moved to Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 3 and is requiring utilities to begin controlled service interruptions.
This impacts Liberty customers.
They have begun the process of interrupting service in blocks throughout their electric system.
According to the notice issued by Liberty, they will work to keep the duration of the interruptions down to approximately one hour per block and do all they can to minimize the impact.
Liberty Utilities is still under a Peak Advisory and is asking all customers to safely conserve energy through midnight, Tuesday, February 16. Outage updates will be provided as they become available on our Facebook page. Current outages may also be viewed on their outage map.
Because of the rapidly changing nature of this emergency, Liberty will not be able to alert customers individually about required service interruptions. They are asking customers to prepare in advance in the following ways:
• Make sure your cell phones are fully charged.
• Have a supply of water available.
• Check the batteries in your radio and clocks.
• Gather blankets and warm clothing.
• Gather alternate light sources and make sure they are ready to use before dark.
Liberty would like to reassure customers their crews are working around the clock to maintain and restore power to customers. These required service interruptions, impacting utilities across the Midwest, are an effort to avoid longer uncontrolled service interruptions.
