As the weather continues to get colder, many in Barry County are looking into their closets to find them severely lacking in attire to protect them from the weather. With the season of giving fast approaching, several area businesses have teamed up to put together a new coat drive in town.
Cappy Harris Realators, Arvest Bank of Cassville, Freedom Bank of Cassville, Seligman and Shell Knob have recently joined forces in an effort to keep the citizens of Barry County warm through the winter months.
Starting on October 25, these businesses began taking in all forms of winter wear at their various locations. These locations will continue to accept donations until November 25.
According to Lori Ewbank, an agent at Cappy Harris Realtors, the drive accepts more than just coats.
“We’re accepting coats, mittens, gloves, hats and pretty much winter everything,” said Ewbank.
Drop-off boxes for these items are currently located at: the Cappy Harris Realtors, in Cassville by Walmart; Arvest Bank in Cassville; and the Freedom Bank Locations in Seligman, Shell Knob and Cassville.
Ewbanks went on to explain that the group hopes to make this an annual event for their organizations.
“This is our first annual, but we’re hoping to do it every year,” explained Ewbank. “We’re hoping to get a lot more people involved in doing this, because we feel that it’s a big need in the community.”
Once the drive ends on November 25, the coats will be rounded up from all participating locations. From there, the coats will be divided up to suit the needs of several Barry County school districts.
According to Ewbank, the school districts targeted for distribution are Shell Knob Elementary, Southwest, Cassville and Exeter. Coats will go to students of all ages.
Ewbank also stated that the currently partnered businesses are open to participation from other organizations looking to get involved with the coat drive.
To learn more about collection and drop-off points, or to get involved with the coat drive, contact the Cappy Harris Realtors office in Cassville at (417) 846-1144.
