Man Faces $75,000 Bond After Charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance

According to a probable cause statement filed by Detective Doug Henry with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ozark Drug Enforcement Team (ODET), warrants were issued for the arrest of Lance Justin Stephens, 28, of Washburn, for the alleged delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Detective Henry received information from an ODET agent in regard to Stephens allegedly possessing a large amount of Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid similar in nature to morphine, but approximately 50 to 100 times more potent.
According to Detective Henry, on March 7, 2022, the Cassville Police Department conducted an interview with an individual who provided information regarding Stephens, identifying him as an individual who possesses and sells a large measurable amount of fentanyl throughout Barry County and surrounding counties. Upon receiving this information, Detective Henry applied for a search warrant for Stephens’s camper trailer.
On May 16, Detective Doug Henry, alongside ODET agents, DEA, and the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant on the camper.
Henry states that the initial contact with Lance Stephens consisted of resistance to leave the camper, allegedly including shutting the door while yelling. After some time, Henry states, Stephens exited the camper. Upon entry into the camper, states Henry, several thousand dollars were immediately visible, alongside several large bags of marijuana. A small bag of a crystal-like substance was also allegedly discovered upon entry.
Detective Henry states that the discovered cash was counted and amounted to an approximate total of $18,187. The discovered marijuana amounted to an approximate weight of 3.69 pounds, or 59.08 oz of marijuana. The aforementioned small bag of a crystal like substance later tested positive for methamphetamine. An illegal firearm was also allegedly discovered, later identified as a Sig Saur P320 equipped with a loaded magazine. Detective Henry states that two syringes were also located with a clear liquid contained within each, and have been sent to be tested. Stephens currently has a cash-only bond of $75,000, and stands charged ith delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and the unlawful use of a weapon.
