A Monett man is in custody for allegedly making a bomb threat on December 30. According to affidavits of probable cause by Monett Police Department officer Justin Harper, Joshua Hendershot, 25, of Monett, used a cell phone to call in a fake bomb threat Monday evening.
Around 9:01 p.m., the officer was dispatched to an address on 6th Street when a call was placed to 911 saying Hendershot was threatening to harm himself and others. When the officer arrived on scene around 9:18 p.m., the residents of the home said they did not know where Hendershot was.
When officers when to search around the exterior of the home, they received a call from dispatch that there was a situation that could not be aired over the radio. When officers spoke with dispatch, they notified them a bomb threat had been called in and that the caller said he would set off a bomb at 607 6th Street and there was nothing officers could do about it.
The call pinged from an area near the residence the original call came from. Officers found Hendershot hiding near a detached garage and confirmed the call placed to 911 was from Hendershot's cell phone, which they found near where he was hiding. He also had a syringe of methamphetamine in his pocket at the time of the arrest.
Hendershot is currently being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 cash-only bond.
