November 24, 2020
Sheila Harris
On November 18, the Barry County Health Department and Office of Emergency Management announced the deaths of three more Barry County residents from complications of COVID-19. All three men, ages 77, 78 and 90, were residents of congregate care homes and had underlying health conditions.
On November 24, officials announced two additional COVID-19-related deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in Barry County to 29.
Both the 74-year-old female and the 61-year-old male had histories of underlying health conditions, but lived independently.
Health Department and Emergency Management Officials extend their condolences to their friends and families.
They wish to remind residents they should continue to maintain physical distancing of at least six feet, or wear face coverings, to frequently wash their hands, and to stay home if they are the slightest bit ill.
All people are at risk of catching COVID-19. Older residents, those with underlying health conditions, the immuno-compromised, smokers, and pregnant women are at greater risk of severe illness, ICU admission, mechanical ventilation and death.
Symptoms of COVID include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, fever, muscle or body aches,
headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or a new loss of taste or
smell. If you believe, you have symptoms of COVID-19 stay home, call your medical provider, and wear a mask
when near anyone who does not live in the same home.
