Motorcycle group raised funds for Lighthouse Ministries
August 5, 2020
On June 27, 2020, the 4th Annual 1M.O.T.R (1 Mile Off The Road) motorcycle benefit ride for the hungry raised their kickstands and took off.
Participants came from Arkansas, Eagle Rock, Shell Knob and the surrounding areas.
Donations totaling $682 were collected and given to Lighthouse Ministries. Lighthouse Ministries is a group of volunteers that purchase materials and make terra cotta solar lighthouses to sell.
The proceeds from the sales are given to the food pantry to purchase protein for regular distribution, with the commodities gathered each month. To date they have raised $3,000 for purchase of chicken and beef.
The twist to this story is that they announced that they have 2 years of funds in the bank for future use. Because of this, the representatives of Lighthouse Ministries re-donated the funds to a new charity, Straight Edge Inc., that provides a sober living facility in Purdy. Straight Edge Inc. was founded by Jeremy “Lucky” Walker, Brandon Ko, Michael Barrett Jr., Nichole Walker, Tyler Jackson. They provide a sober living facility with treatment options for the residents.
As quoted by Lucky, “You line yourself up with a straight edge of scripture; you find out how crooked our lives really are.”
Their facility opened on June 1st, 2020, and has accepted residents for rehab. You can check them out at: swmostraightedge.org
1M.O.T.R. was formed to enjoy a motorcycle ride with the purpose of collecting funds for the hungry. One mile off the road in the Ozarks, you see the hunger and need when you look past the big nice homes in the lake area.
Founder Albert Slavik came up with a way to raise funds for organizations that ease these needs, especially hunger.
An organization that has received funds on previous rides is His House Foundation.
We would like to thank the donors: Pied Piper Inn, Central Crossing Marine, Carol Cross, The Trails Inn, The Rockin’ Pig Saloon, Sparky’s Roadhouse, Jug N Plug, Watson’s on the Water, Razorback Lodge, Arvest Bank, Freedom Bank, Bad to the Bone BBQ, Office Pub & Steakhouse, Carolyn Mayhew, Bill & Marilyn Holley, and Trisha & Brandon Wilson. Without their support, we would not be able to give this amount of funds to the needy. Next year our goal is to collect and pass on $1,000.
