Despite rumors to the contrary, there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in Cassville or Barry County, according to Barry County Emergency Management Director David Compton. Compton said he confirmed the information through SEMA (State Emergency Management Agency) around 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.
Currently, a news article is circulating on Facebook from the Kirksville Daily Express, claiming Governor Mike Parson said the ninth case of COVID-10 confirmed was in Cassville and international travel related. Compton assured that was not true. He said, "As of half an hour ago, there are no COVID cases in Cassville or Barry County, and I would be one of the first to know if there were."
Compton said he believes the Governor either misspoke or was misquoted, as there are two cases in Cass County.
As of 5 p.m., there were 24 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Missouri. Nine tests are pending, and 308 test have come back negative as of the time of the article. One person, from Boone County and in their 60s, died as a result of the virus that was contracted from international travel.
Compton assured the public will be notified in a timely manner if there is a positive case of COVID-19 in the county.
