With their run rule 10-0 win over Crane last week in the Class 2 District 6 title game, the Purdy Eagles advanced into sectional baseball competition for the ninth time in the last 13 years, including five out of the last six. The Purdy baseball dynasty is real.
Purdy rolled through the regular season with a 4-3 loss to Monett the only blemish on a 22-1 record. The Eagles earned the top district seed, and its accompanying first round bye.
In the opening round at Crane, Pierce City took out Southwest in a 10-0 game, while Crane beat Wheaton in a 6-1 contest. In the semifinals, Purdy eliminated Pierce City in a tough 5-1 match while Crane pulled the upset over Billings in a convincing 16-0 romp.
But Purdy was too much for the Pirates in the district championship game. The Eagles scored six runs in the third inning and added three more in the fourth frame.
Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jacob Brown singled, and Carl Hughlett ripped a hit past third base bringing home Brown all the way from first for the decisive run.
The Eagles improved to 24-1 on the season and advanced to a Monday sectional contest against Seymour.
