Purdy Eagles continue winning streak, prep basketball roundup

The Cassville Wildcats saw their season record dip to 1-4 following a 69-21 loss at Galena on Friday night. The Wildcats head up the road on Friday night for a date with Purdy. The Eagles improved to 7-0 with an 82-64 victory over Exeter. Powerful Purdy performances have taken down opponents by an average winning margin of 23.5 points. Only Verona has played within single digits of the high flying Eagles.
The Southwest Trojans dropped their Tipoff game to Marionville on Friday night, 78-61. The Trojans only trailed by a point after one quarter, 14-13, led by 8 points from Cruz Marquez. But the Comets pushed to a 32-27 halftime lead, then broke the game open with a 22-11 third quarter.
The Wheaton Bulldogs fell to Galena at home on Tuesday night, 79-46. The Bulldogs held a brief early lead before Zane Gayle drained a long trey from the left wing for a 5-3 Bears lead.
Wheaton trailed by just 10-9 midway through the opening quarter, but Galena spurted to a 25-16 lead at the buzzer. The Bulldogs played a strong second quarter, cutting the lead to just 6 in the final minute But Galena beat the buzzer for a 43-35 halftime lead.The Bears controlled the third quarter, 25-6, enroute to the victory. The Bulldogs fell to 3-4 with the loss, and will play at Diamond on Thursday.
VARSITY GIRLS ROUNDUP
It was a tough week for area girls basketball teams.
The Cassville Lady Wildcats fell to 3-3 on the season with a 68-40 road loss to undefeated Hollister last Thursday. The Ladycats will continue a long road trip when they play at Wheaton on Thursday and at Sarcoxie on Monday.
After opening with a 2-2 mark, the Wheaton Lady Bulldogs defeated Galena, 33-19, and East Newton, 46-37, before a 73-31 stumble to a powerful Sparta team on Friday.
The Southwest Lady Trojans dipped to 2-3 with a 49-19 defeat at Marionville on Thursday.
The Purdy Lady Eagles pinned a 50-26 loss on the Exeter Lady Tigers on Friday night. Purdy improved to 2-3 while Exeter remained winless at 0-4. Purdy plays at Verona on Thursday night, and Exeter has a break until the Southwest Holiday Tournament.
