Purdy Festival organizer, Renae Neill, said record crowds were in attendance Saturday at the 10th annual celebration of the community festival, popular for its free kiddie rides, large car show, live music, craft and vendor show, and bathtub races. Neill believes Saturday’s moderate temperatures played a part in the large turnout.
“People stayed this year since temperatures were cooler,” she said, “instead of showing up for a while, then leaving.”
New to the festival this year was a children’s petting zoo, and monster truck rides.
“Kids loved them both,” Neill said. “The monster truck rides were $10 each, but parents willingly paid the price so their kids could enjoy the experience.”
Water was a popular feature at the festival, too, with a deluge from the heavens competing with manufactured rain from Purdy’s fire engine to delight kids of many ages.
