Purdy wins at buzzer, Southwest posts homecoming win

On Tuesday night at Purdy, seven-footer Scotty Henry snared an offensive board and scored at the buzzer to give the Eagles a 51-50 victory over longtime rival Southwest. The Trojans led much of the game and took a 50-49 lead when Cruz Marquez scored with just 15 seconds remaining. But Henry’s height advantage and last second follow pushed Purdy past Southwest.
Southwest 73, Galena 71 (OT)
Southwest rebounded to claim a 73-71 overtime win against Galena at Homecoming on Friday night at Washburn.
The Trojans raced to a 14-8 lead in the opening quarter. But the Bears chipped away and poured in 22 points in the fourth quarter to create a 64-64 tie and force overtime.
Southwest’s Zak Attack saw both Zak Corwin and Zak Starr hit from long range in OT to lift the Trojans to victory. Marquez had a monster night, scoring 29.
The Southwest Lady Trojans defeated Wheaton 46-42, and then fell to Galena, 53-34.
Nevada 59, Cassville 42
The Cassville Wildcats stormed to an early 16-6 lead at Nevada on Friday night. But Nevada’s 6-7 center Dalton Gayman took over the game, and rang up 29 points to lead the Tigers to a 59-42 victory. Gayman thrilled the crowd with both dunks and bombs as Nevada improved to 16-3 on the season.
Cassville slipped to 6-14 for the year.
The Cassville Lady Wildcats split games with East Newton and Nevada during the week. The Ladycats claimed a 36-24 victory over East Newton, but fell at Nevada, 62-33. The Lady Wildcats own a 7-13 record after the loss.
Seneca Tournament
The Purdy Lady Eagles fell to Aurora in the 5th place game of the Seneca Tournament, 53-35.
