Purdy's Schallert Commits to Cameron

Purdy High School Senior Lauren Schallert signed a letter of intent to continue her education and play softball for Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma at a special ceremony hosted by her coaches, Lori Videmschek and Jennifer Cornelius, and her parents, Todd and Tracy Schallert, on Wednesday, November 18.
Cornelius observed, “Lauren works extremely hard to get better each and every day. She set a goal to continue playing softball at the collegiate level, and she made it happen. I am beyond proud of her.”
Videmschek noted of Schallert, “Lauren is a very special player. She brings a formidable arsenal of pitches to the circle, with velocity and movement. She is also a versatile player. Not only can she pitch, but she is also a tremendous power hitter.”
Schallert’s stats at the plate echo her coach’s observation. In the 2019 season - Schallert’s sophomore year at Purdy - she maintained a .444 batting average, with 41 RBI’s and three home runs. In the circle, she accrued 219 strike-outs and an earned-run average of 3.36.
Any coach would be thrilled with such impressive stats from a player, but Videmschek points to deeper gifts when pinpointing her favorite aspects of her star pitcher.
“Most of all I love her confidence and composure,” she said. “She brings such strong leadership to the field and to the team. Cameron University is getting not only a top athlete, but also an excellent student and person. I am very proud of her and wish her all the best.”
