Purdy's Spears claims American FFA Degree
November 27, 2019
Purdy High School Alumna Cailyn Spears (Class of 2018) was one of 520 Missouri FFA members to receive her American FFA Degree at the 2019 National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana. The American FFA Degree is awarded each year to less than one percent of FFA members, making it one of the organization’s highest honors. As noted by National FFA Advisor Dr. Steven A. Brown, the requirements to receive the degree are numerous. In his message to this year’s recipients, he noted, “The American FFA Degree is an example of a significant accomplishment... Achieving this goal required years of hard work and commitment.”
In addition to their degree certificates, recipients of the American FFA Degree are also awarded a gold American FFA Degree Key, symbolic of the highest achievement of the National FFA Organization.
Spears identified receipt of her American FFA Degree as, “a true honor. I was blessed with amazing support from my advisor, Mr. Jordan Ellis, as well as family, friends and fellow FFA members. Receiving my American Degree was a goal I set for myself when I first began my FFA journey as a high school freshman. I can’t think of a better way to wind up my career than by accepting my degree with my family and my former advisor at my side.”
Spears is the daughter of Donnie and Amanda Spears. Also receiving her American FFA Degree, but unable to attend the National Convention ceremony, was Purdy High School Alumna Mikey Schad, daughter of Ryan and Carla Schad.
