A two-year-old boy from rural Washburn drowned Thursday, June 25, after apparently climbing the ladder to the family’s pool, unobserved, then falling into the water, according to Barry County Sheriff, Gary Davis.
Deputies were dispatched to a home two miles west of Washburn at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, where they were told CPR was in progress. Upon arrival, they found CPR being administered to an unresponsive child by an adult family member. First responders took over and continued the resuscitation efforts for over 30 minutes, with no success. The victim was taken by air ambulance to Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest in Springdale, where he was pronounced deceased.
