The City of Cassville is currently accepting bids for the demolition of the above-pictured house and two other rock structures located on what is known generally as the “Cook property,” which sits adjacent to the parking lot of the Cassville Aquatic Center on Farm Road 2182.
According to Cassville Public Works Director, David Brock, bids have been solicited from about 12 companies so far.
The demolition will be the initial step toward the repurposing of the approximate five acres the structures now occupy.
“Right now, the city is looking at the possibility of creating mountain bike trails on the property,” Brock said.
According to information obtained from the Barry County Museum and the assessor’s office, the house above was constructed in 1943 by A.G. Sutton, father of Mrs. Goldena Cook.
The second rock house on the property sits adjacent to Farm Road 1110 and was constructed in 1930. The third rock structure is designated as a shed by the assessor’s office.
According to Brock, bids for the demolition project will be accepted through December 18. An award decision will be made on January 11, 2021.
