Second suspect charged in Monett robbery

Two allegedly held patient at gunpoint for pain medication

The second suspect was charged in the armed robbery of a cancer patient in Monett in November. Shane Eugene Smith, 33, of Purdy, was charged earlier in December but was just booked into custody on December 26. The other suspect, Shawn Scott Ice, 30, of Monett, was booked into jail on November 20.

According to affidavits of probable cause by Detective Scott Landreth, of the Monett Police Department, Smith and Ice, while wearing masks, forced their way into a home on Broadway in Monett and demanded pain medications from one of the residents who has cancer. The incident occurred on November 4 around 11:17 p.m.

The two men allegedly ordered the one victim to the floor with a rifle and demanded narcotics he was prescribed for his cancer. Then, the victim told the two he would get it for them, one struck him in the head, according to the report.

Smith also confronted the other two occupants in the home and ordered them to the floor.

The suspects allegedly left with $1,200 cash, a pair of jeans and Fentanyl patches and dilaudid. Smith was identified by a photo on Facebook by the victims.

According to the victims, Ice had been at the residence about 45 minutes prior to the robbery, asking for pain pills. An inmate in the Monett Jail also said that Ice told the informant he and Smith had committed the crime.

Smith is charged with robbery in the first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is currently being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $200,00 cash-only bond.

Ice is charged with robbery in the first degree, stealing - physically take, and stealing a controlled substance and is still being held in the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 cash-only bond.
