In tough competition at the Reeds Spring Invitational, Cassville and Southwest tracksters found medals hard to come by. Both the Cassville boys and girls squads collected one individual gold and one set of gold relay medals. A number of season’s best performances did not even make the medal stand.
Field events and relays were Cassville’s strong points. Both Kyren Postlewait and Braden Dickinson won the shot event: she with a throw of 11.58 meters, he with a 14.25 meter toss.
The Cassville girls scored 94.5 points, second in the team standings behind Mt. Vernon’s 121. The Cassville boys placed third with 74.5, trailing Reeds Spring and Hollister.
Southwest’s Travis Sickles jumped into the Class 2 state rankings, winning the 1600 meter run with a monster PR of 4:34.05. Southwest coach Steve Voyak scratched the 4x800 m relay to let his stud run the 1600 with fresh legs, and Sickles didn’t waste the opportunity. That time was good enough for second in the Class 2 state rankings. Sickles then took second in the 3200 meter long haul behind state cross country champ Sam Shuman from Spokane.
