Sickles, Evans post wins in cross country openers

    Travis Sickles of Southwest and Pace Evans of Cassville both posted individual victories as local schools kicked off the cross country season. Sickles dominated at the Fellows Lake 5000 at Strafford, cruising home in 16:51 with a huge lead. Likewise, Evans ran mostly alone at the Aurora Hot Dawg Invitational, winning easily in 18:48.

    The Cassville boys won the team title at Aurora, scoring 33 points.

    The Cassville Lady Wildcats also claimed the team title at Aurora, scoring 27 points. Cassville was led by senior Jordyn Stafford with her fifth place finish.

    In the middle school 2-mile races, Cassville’s Kyleer Hayward and Tyra Sturgell finished 1-2 in the girls division, running 15:05 and 15:49, respectively. Evan Butler placed 5th in 14:29 in the boys division.
Fellows Lake 5K Results from Strafford

    Travis Sickles powered into the lead just past the 2 mile mark, and pulled away to win the high school boys division at Fellows Lake in 16:51.

    The Southwest boys placed third in the team standings.

    Zane Johnson paced the Wheaton boys to an 11th place finish at Strafford, finishing 32nd in 20:27. Lori McNeill was the top Wheaton girl runner, finishing 22nd in 25:46.
