Sickles wins in record time at Wheaton Invitational

Travis Sickles, the Southwest senior, easily won the boys varsity race at the Wheaton Invitational last Thursday, setting a new course and meet record of 16:41. The previous record was 17:14, set by Wheaton’s Sean Lowry.
Southwest’s boys won the varsity division, scoring 25 points. Wheaton was second and Galena finished third.
There were no complete teams in the varsity girls division at Wheaton. Madison Garren of Sheldon was the overall winner, running 23:13. Cally Bowyer of Southwest led area runners, taking second in 24:05. Lori McNeill led Wheaton, taking 5th in 25:16. Jessi Hoppes was Purdy’s top runner, placing 13th in 30:06.
The Wheaton girls won the middle school division, sweeping the top four places. Lakeisha Wise, Brooke Sherwood, Brandee Sherwood, and Savannah Hopkins led the field for the host squad. Purdy’s Rose Wilson was 16th.
Michael Perrigon of St. Peters was the winner of the middle school boys race. Thomas Jefferson won the team title.
Wyatt Taft led the Southwest entry with his second place finish. Hunter Wyatt led Wheaton, taking fifth.
Cassville Invitational
The Lamar Tigers won the varsity boys division and Carl Junction won the varsity girls division at the Cassville Invitational.
Joe Kremp of Lamar won a boys race packed with state-ranked runners, posting a 16:15 performance. Kierston Potter of Lamar was the girls gold medalist, running 20:06.
The Southwest boys, led by a 4th-place finish from Travis Sickles, placed 5th in team standings. Cassville was 6th, paced by Pace Evans in 8th position, and Wheaton placed 7th.
