Missouri FFA hosts six FFA Leadership Camp sessions during this summer. This summer, Southwest FFA Chapter was able to send five members to week five which took place July 1 through 5. As the Missouri Department of Education describes it, “The FFA Leadership Camp program is filled with education, recreation, and entertainment. The educational portion consists of FFA Leadership training designed to meet the needs of all members, greenhands, chapter FFA degrees, chapter officers, and area officers.”
Attendees are given the opportunity to spend time swimming, boating, fishing, playing badminton, trap shooting, shuffleboard, horseshoes, archery and volleyball. FFA state officers are there each week to assist in leadership training. The five members were asked to describe their own experience at the camp.
“At camp, we meet many new people and got to know the state officers better. We earned our leadership pins and had a great time doing camp activities,” said Southwest FFA member Bonnie Robbins.
“At camp, our theme was ‘Linked to Lead’. We learned how to become better leaders in our chapters and communities, the state officers were great leaders and helped everyone get their leadership pins. This was accomplished by doing all the sessions and activities with us. We got to meet many new people, and it was just a great week spent,” said Aubrey Cornell, another Southwest FFA member.
Southwest FFA member Karlea Holder said, “At camp this year, we learned how to be a better leader in our everyday lives, as well as in our chapter. We also took the time to look into ourselves and find where we fit in when leading others. While doing all of this, we each earned our leadership pins.”
“At camp, we got to meet many new people and learn how to become better leaders. We can take these skills back and use them in our own chapter to better our organization. It was also a lot of fun because there were fun activities like archery and trap shooting. We also all earned the state leadership pin,” FFA member Andy Cornell added.
“We were always learning something the entire time we were there and having a lot of fun while doing it. There are a lot of fun activities and you get to meet so many new people,” said Ty Howard, Southwest FFA.
Ty Howard was awarded ‘All-Around Camper’ for Southwest. Everyone was able to receive their State Leadership Pins, as well. They had to attend 13 events to earn the pin. Overall, this was a great week for all the campers to make connections and receive leadership training, and learning what kind of leader they are.
