Southwest girls fall to McAuley at Gem City Classic

The Southwest Lady Trojans had no answer for McAuley’s scoring duo of Kaitlyn Teeter and Kennedy DeRuy when the two teams collided in the opening round of the Gem City Classic at Diamond on Monday night. Teeter dropped 29 on Southwest and DeRuy added 21 to lead the Lady Warriors to a 70-47 victory.
McAuley jumped out to lead 16-9 at the first break, and 37-22 at halftime, Then DeRuy went off for 14 points in a 22-8 third quarter to blow the game open.
“They had multiple scoring weapons,” said Southwest’s Destiny Jalbert, noting that Gliza Damaso also reached double figures for McAuley.
Anna Church led the Lady Trojans with 18. After missing the season opener, Southwest point guard Emily Wilson finally got some action, scoring 12.
Southwest was slated to play Greenfield on Wednesday night as the tournament continued.
