Southwest track finishes in top five at Pierce City
April 17, 2019
The Southwest boys finished fifth of 17 teams at the Hillbilly Relays at Pierce City High School last week.
"We are constantly talking about trying to peak at the right time, but there has to be a level of consistency during the middle of the season," said Southwest track coach Steve Voyak. "I like the way the kids are pushing themselves to try to get better with each meet."
Sophomore John Scannell earned silver in the long jump and bronze in the triple jump and the 100 hurdles. Also, the 4x800 relay was second in 9:16, while the 4x400 relay was 4th in 3:55.4. Senior Trevor Sneed was 3rd in the 400 in 55.31, while sophomore Travis Sickles was 3rd in the 800 and 5th in the mile, and freshman Max Terry was 4th in the 200 in a PR of 24.26.
Sophomore Brylee Wilson led the girls team by winning the 800 meters in 2:38.37 and finishing 4th in the mile in 6:34. Other highlights on the girls side: Senior Mariah Munday was 4th in the triple jump in 28 feet.
