Southwest’s Sickles wins road race debut

Travis Sickles, a senior at Southwest High School in Washburn, was the overall winner in the 10K competition of the Cabin Fever Reliever road races at Rogersville on Saturday. In his very first road race experience, Sickles blew away a field of veteran runners, posting a hot winning time in frigid weather conditions.
The Cabin Fever Reliever races are the annual kickoff for the Ozark Mountain Ridgerunners running club of Springfield, with runners competing at 5K, 10K, and 20K distances.

• 5K Overall Male: Austin Kendall, Ozark, 19:51.62
• 5K Overall Female: Kelly Anderson, Springfield, 22:29.48
• 10K Overall Male: Travis Sickles, Washburn, 36:29.18
• 10K Overall Female: Casey Wilson, Springfield, 40:53.01
• 20K Overall Male: Brad Lyons, Springfield, 1:07:45.54
• 20K Overall Female: Sara Ibbetson, Ozark, 1:17:32.19
Highlight of the day went to Henri Coeme of Neosho, who at age 68 set both single age and age group state records in the 20K with his 1:25:55.08 performance. That gives Coeme 36 Missouri state road running records at various distances.
