During the early morning hours of April 13, thieves hit the Freedom Bank ATM in Golden.
According to Barry County Sheriff Danny Boyd, Barry County E-911 dispatch received an alarm call at 2:41 a.m. on April 13 to the Freedom Bank location, a second call from the alarm company was made to Barry County E-911 at 2:44 a.m. to disregard per business key holder. At 3:22 a.m., Barry County E-911 dispatch received a third call from the business key holder advising the ATM had been broken into at the Golden location.
When deputies arrived at the Freedom Bank location, they found the ATM had been broken into. Deputies found a white Dodge pickup, which had been stolen from the area, as well as a bumper with a license plate still attached belonging to a van from the First Baptist Church in Grandview, Arkansas. The van was later found approximately a mile down the road in the ditch with straps and hooks used to pull the ATM open.
“We believe this is an organized crime group out of Texas,” said Sheriff Boyd. “There appears to be four suspects involved and the same group appears to have broken into bank ATM’s in five other counties in Missouri, with the most recent being Dallas county yesterday (April 15). We are working closely with the Sheriff’s offices in those counties.”
Sheriff Boyd did state that there is no immediate threat to the community and has asked that anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in that area or have information about the crime to contact the Barry County Sheriff’s Office at 417-847-6556.
