Two air lifted after head-on MO-39 crash

Three people were injured in a crash on MO 39 north of Shell Knob around 6:08 p.m. on Saturday evening. Both drivers had to be transported via helicopter for serious injuries. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, a car crossed over the center line.
David P. Shepard, 57, of Shell Knob was driving northbound on MO 39 in a 1994 Mazda Navajo when he crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle head-on. The second vehicle, a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero, was driven by Casey L. Petzoldt, 28, of Springfield. Petzoldt and her sister Chelsea S. Petzoldt, 29, of Springfield, were both injured.
Both drivers were transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield via helicopter for serious injuries. The passenger, Chelsea, had minor injuries but was not transported for medical treatment. Both Casey and Chelsea were wearing seat belts. Shepard was not.
Both vehicles were totalled as a result of the crash. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Barry County Sheriff’s Department and Central Crossing Fire Department.
