Young anglers will have the opportunity to fish for free at the spring Kids’ Fishing Day at Roaring River State Park on Saturday, May 18.
The event, which is co-sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Roaring River Adventures, will be held from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Youth ages 15 and under will be able to fish for free in a designated area of Roaring River during the event. Children in that age range will need to pick up a free trout tag at the big tent near twin falls.
There will also be classes and demonstrations held under the big tent near the river head by the fish hatchery and along the river by the CCC Lodge. Youth that attend three classes will be entered into a drawing which will be held at 4 p.m. A free hotdog and chip lunch will be available at the CCC Lodge.
Missouri Department of Conservation staff and volunteers will be available to assist anglers. There will be some poles and bait available, but anglers are encouraged to bring with own fishing gear. Parents may assist children, but only one pole may be used. Adults are not allowed to fish by themselves in the designated Kids’ Fishing Day areas.
For more information about the event, contact the MDC’s Roaring River Hatchery at 417-847-2430.
