Area haunts open for one more ghoulish weekend

A variety of haunts throughout the county are open for one final weekend to close out the ghoulish Halloween season. For those wanting more tricks instead of treats this last haunting weekend, spooky offerings in Exeter, Wheaton and Seligman will give everyone frights for a few more days.
Exeter Haunted Maze and Barn
Exeter’s Corn Maze during the day is a pleasant sight with festive fall colors, pumpkins and activities for kids of all ages. However when the grounds begin to go dark, the hauntings come alive. Guests can travel through the corn maze filled with ghouls and goblins or take a chance in the haunted barn, which is two stories of haunted dungeon filled with things that will haunt your nightmares. Haunted areas are probably too scary for the younger visitors.
Finally, new this year is the zombie paintball interactive ride, fun for all ages. The ride begins through the corn maze were guests, armed with paintball guns, shoot at zombies moving about before the ride moves inside to face even more gouls, but don’t worry, the zombies can’t shoot back.
Other attractions are also still open, including the concession stand, barn play area and more. Haunted areas are open beginning at 7 p.m. with the last tickets sold at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The non-haunted areas are open Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday. The non-haunted areas are also open Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
To get to the Exeter Corn Maze, turn onto Highway MM in Exeter and follow the signs.
Cost: Maze - $7 each, 12 and under $5; Barn - $7 each 12 and under $5; Zombie Paintball - 100 shots $10, 200 shots $15; and Haunted armband (maze, barn and paintball) $20. Children under three are free, but not recommended.
Seligman Spook Trail
The Seligman Spook Trail is open on Halloween and Saturday, November 1 from 8 p.m. until midnight. In years past, the trail was operated by the Seligman Fire Department, but this year, the operation changed hands, but offers the same scary experience in the ride-through trail. This year’s trail is operated by the Pea Ridge, Ark., group Beta Alpha, a chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha nonprofit.
Money raised by from the spook trail will go to provide scholarships to Southwest High School students and other charitable causes.
Concessions are available on site with hamburgers frito pie, coffee, hot cocoa, nachos and more. From Highway 37 in Seligman, take DD to Mill Hill and follow the signs.
Cost: $5 each, children 5 and under free.
Wheaton Haunted Mill
Returning this year is the benefit Wheaton Haunted Mill for those wanting to be scared out of their wits. The mill will be open on October 30, 31 and November 1 at 7 p.m. each night. This year, all proceeds go to benefit Brittni Lacey, a young woman battling melanoma that spread through her blood stream. Money raised will go to help cover her treatment costs and travel expenses.
The walk-through scare-fest is appropriate for kids around 10 and up. The Mill is located at 407 E. Hurlbut in Wheaton.
Cost: $7 per person with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to Brittni Lacey.
