Local Purdy student places in writing contest

A Purdy Middle School student recently received First Place in the Ozarks Writers League Youth Writing Contest. Francis Mae Mathews’s entry, titled “Our Time,” was the top winner among 44 entries received in the Short Story category. She received a $25 gift card and a certificate. Ozarks Writers League’s members are dedicated to promoting writing, literacy, photography, and art. Members range from aspiring writers to seasoned authors. This year’s meetings will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and Saturday, September 21, at the Camden Hotel and Conference Center, 275 Tanger Blvd., Branson.
