January 15, Cassville High School celebrated 31 years of giving back to the community through the Mr./Miss Merry Christmas program.
Each year, two candidates from each grade, one male and one female, compete to raise the most money for the Mr./Miss Merry Christmas Project. The money raised by the candidates is donated to Share Your Christmas.
Share Your Christmas is an OACAC program that provides Christmas presents for children who might not otherwise receive any. This year the need skyrocketed, nearly doubling from years past. Luckily, the Cassville High School candidates rose to the challenge and raised $9,457.38.
This year's candidates included freshmen, Levi Maher and Kyah Saffold; sophomores, Frank Osborn and Lauren Stockton; juniors, Jesse Taylor and Eden Morris; and seniors, Carson Whittemire and Hannah Hackler.
This year’s coronation took place preceding the Cassville High School boys’ varsity basketball game against Southwest on January 15.
Each candidate entered the gym to the cheers and applause of family and friends. After everyone entered the gym, last year's Miss Merry Christmas, Bailey Saffold, was introduced. She crowned the two candidates who raised the most money this year.
This year’s Mr. Merry Christmas is freshman Levi Maher and Miss Merry Christmas is freshman Kyah Saffold.
After they were crowned, the pair presented OACAC representative Jill Lecompte with a check for the money that had been collected.
